Holy Week & Easter Celebrations

We invite you to join us for any and all of our Holy Week and Easter Worship Celebrations at John Wesley as we celebrate the event that changed everything!

Palm Sunday | Sunday, April 5th at 10:30 am
The scripture will come alive as we walk through Jesus’ final week leading up to his death in a Passion Drama with palms, Holy Communion and special music. Please note, we will only have our 10:30 am service (no 8:30 am), so everyone can share in this celebration.

Prayer Walk/Stations of the Cross | Monday, April 6th through Friday, April 10th
There will be eight different prayer stations around the sanctuary with various visuals for you to stop, reflect and pray. A booklet will be available with scripture and reflection questions for you to consider as you stop at each station. This sacred time with God will include light music and solitude. Our sanctuary will be open for prayer and meditation:

  • Monday, April 6: 9:00 am to 6:00 pm
  • Tuesday, April 7: 9:00 am to 6:00 pm
  • Wednesday, April 8: 9:00 am to 1:00 pm
  • Thursday, April 9: 9:00 am to 4:00 pm
  • Friday, April 10: 9:00 am to 4:00 pm

Soup for the Soul | Wednesday, April 8th at 12:00 pm noon
Our last “Soup for the Soul” of the Lenten season. Join us for a 30 minute service including hymn singing, prayer and time of meditation by John Wesley UMC member and Retired Baptist Minister, Rev. Bob Hansen, then enjoy a delicious soup luncheon afterwards in the Fellowship Hall.

Maundy Thursday Service | Thursday, April 9th at 7:00 pm
This solemn, meaningful service is a time to share with Christ in his last night with his disciples. There will be Holy Communion, extinguishing of the candles and a “Litany of the Nails,” as each one of us will be invited to hammer a nail into the cross. Child care will be available.

Good Friday Service | Friday, April 10th from 12:00 to 2:00 pm
Ecumenical service at John Wesley, with seven local clergy members, including Pastor Rebecca, preaching on the seven last words of Jesus from the cross. Interspersed with the meditations will be hymns, prayers and silence. You may come and go as you please during this sacred time of remembering Christ’s suffering on the cross for our sins.

Community Easter Egg Hunt | Saturday, April 11th at 10:00 am
Welcoming crawlers through 4th graders for a huge Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 11th! Over 2,000 eggs to find in our four age-appropriate hunting areas. Crafts, games and activities for the whole family! Everyone in the community is welcome! Please bring your own basket.

Easter Sunrise Service | Sunday, April 12th at 6:00 am
The Easter Sunrise Service will take place at Nobska Point Lighthouse in Woods Hole at 6:00 am. Pastor Rebecca will offer the Easter message and Rev. Deborah Warner of the Church of the Messiah will help lead the service as the sun rises from the darkness on Easter morn.

Easter Celebration | Sunday, April 12th at 8:30 and 10:30 am
One of the church’s most meaningful services of the year: the Easter Celebration. We will rejoice with the choir, brass, prayers, praise, an Easter message and more. Nursery care will be available for both services and Worship Our Way (WoW) for children (Kindergarten through 4th grade), will take place during the 10:30 am service. Coffee and goodies will be available in the Fellowship Hall after both services.
